Shortest & Longest French Village Names

Shortest & Longest French Village Names

I love driving through France and seeing all the fascinating names of towns and villages. They come in all shapes and sizes.

Have you ever wondered which French villages hold the record for the shortest and longest names?  Well, wonder no more ..

The French village with longest name can be found in the Marne département in north eastern France.

I feel sorry for the 560 inhabitants who need to grapple with this every time they fill out their address! That’s because the name of their quaint village is:

Saint-Remy-en-Bouzemont-Saint-Genest-et-Isson

And the lucky folk who must zip through writing their address live in the Somme in northern France.  The shortest town name is most certainly:

Y

Yes, that’s it .. just the single letter – Y.
